OVERVIEW

‘Kunama’, meaning ‘snow’ in the Ngarigo language, is a word you wouldn’t normally associate with Australia’s identity. However, it is this element alone that is at the heart of wildlife photographer Charles Davis’ work. Growing up on a farm at the base of the mountains, Charles has an intimate knowledge of the environment around him and the creatures that are found within it. He now uses this knowledge to find and capture unique images of the iconic Australian animals that inhabit the Snowy Mountains region. Shot over a week in Kosciuszko National park, this short film showcases Charles’ pursuits across the high country in search of new images for his first book release, ‘Kunama’.

“It’s not about creating a new identity, it’s about adding a layer of uniqueness to Australia’s wildlife”.
